This is the third time we've rented canoes and kayaks at Ray's Canoe Hideaway. Very competitive rates. It's about an hour paddle towards the east and another hour back. Very low key and quiet section of the upper Manatee River. Bring a water bottle, wear a hat/sunglasses and wear shoes that can get wet.
Great place to get out on the water on the Manatee river. Canoe , swim, have fun and see part of the real Florida. A must see and do for anyone who hasnt in Manatee county. Great prices. Really good down home people.

Great place to spend the day. Best kayaking in the Tampa Bay area. Old Florida at its finest. Owners are friendly and knowledgeable. Bring your camera because the wildlife and scenery is fantastic. Shaded most of the way up the calm river, with plenty of places to picnic. You can even paddle up to Rye park.
Ray's is just a place to get on this part of the river. Nothing special here. A bit run down in fact. Go when the tide is rising or the upstream water can disappear. Watch the wind, a north or south is easier for paddling. The river is mearky salt tidal water. There are lots of sand bars along the way. We got as far as the bridge. 4 hrs is enough unless you plan to stop and swim or fish. Saw some turtles and birds.

I would recommend Ray's canoe hideaway to everyone who loves to enjoy the river and loves to make memories and see amazing wildlife.
This is real Florida living and Florida playing. You should make reservations, this good ol boy took care, I think his name was Mark. Real nice day with my wife and two kids. We paddled up river about two hours stopping often to cool off in the murky water. Don't be scared- we saw no alligators... but it's Florida- there might be Gators. I would certainly recommend.
